YELLOW SNEAKERS explores the wider potential of portraiture when facial features are no longer the dominant aspect on the image.
I get asked often ‘why no faces?’
Because, the absence of a ‘face’ allows the rest of the image to gain importance. Body, composition, negative shapes, pose, texture and mark-making increase in visual and interpretative strength.

Without the 'face' to pre-establish identity, the viewer has the freedom to construct their own narrative of emotions and thoughts. Deciding 'who' that person is. Inserting onto that ‘open space’ whomever they ‘see’. Because we always 'see' someone.
